Introduction

Introduction

Hello! Welcome to Anastasia Finch’s ePortfolio, written as part of a fulfillment for a Masters in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. This portfolio is comprised of materials collected over the course of my library school studies from the past three years. Its purpose is to highlight my mastery of the fifteen core competencies as required by SJSU’s School of Library and Information Sciences. It is comprised of an Introduction, the fifteen Competencies, a Conclusion, and a Statement of Affirmation.

Each competency is divided into three main sections. The first section is the Meaning and Importance of the competency, as I understand it through my years at school and working as a professional librarian. The second section is my Evidence, in which I describe the work I have done throughout school which corresponds with the requirements of the individual competency. And the third section is my Future Application, in which I outline how I plan to use my mastery of each competency in my career as an information professional.

I started the basic planning of this portfolio from my first semester, when I started matching up courses to competencies and making sure I took at least one class that supported each competency. I also made sure to save copies of all my assignments, discussion posts, and presentations, to use as evidence in my portfolio. I started the actual creation and writing of my portfolio in the fall of 2018, with the guidance of my adviser.

To stay organized, I uploaded everything I had to my Google Drive. I also used that same location for keeping drafts of my portfolio. To get over my fear of a blank page, I created small outlines of what I wanted to write about for each competency, and which pieces of evidence I wanted to use. This meant I ended up not writing my portfolio in alphabetical order, but instead went with what I felt most called to write first. Once I completed all fifteen competencies, I then wrote the Introduction, Conclusion, and Statement of Affirmation.

The finished Portfolio is available for browsing through the navigation bar at the top of the page. There is also a table of contents included at the top level page here [https://www.anastasiafinch.com/mlis-portfolio/].
